Forking Flora

What is Plaza? Waht is Nature? What is Image? What is AI? This project, the main theme is using AI generated images with the topic of forset. Critic the image from the view of techniques, and represent the image into a space. Finally, combine the space with the plaza, and rethink the defination of a plaza.

The illusion of sight is at the center of the creation of this project. The site for this project was chosen to be in a plaza made up of twin buildings, thus making the site somewhat of a separate space from the city for us to experiment in. In addition, because of the Twin Towers, the visitor's point of view is basically fixed, which saves us a lot of time. We chose to generate hundreds of images using MJ with the keywords rainforest, maze and playground. We re-categorized the images into rainforest and labyrinth according to the main content of the images and used them as a starting point for the design.

We started with a straightforward modeling of the images in the maze major category, and performed different types of Boolean operations on the different models, taking into account the perspective of the site. Through repeated comparisons, a special three-dimensional square space was finally obtained. After that, we removed part of the floor and wall in this special three-dimensional plaza space to obtain a large amount of through-height and large-capacity functional space. Based on this, we explored the square in Rhino and chose several special viewpoints as visualization points for the optical illusion.

We processed the rainforest images and unified the color palette, further subdividing and describing the processed images according to their light and darkness, line and content. In this process, the most difficult part of the project was how to re-translate the language of the images into a spatial language and how to solve the problem of walls, structures and supports. In the end, we extracted the contents of the image with different brightness into separate layers and translated them into different walls. By planning the material and color of the walls, we finally solved this problem and enriched the existing space to some extent.
